If fans cannot all visit the European Championships games, then the Dutch national football team will visit them at home. Together with the KNVB we at 4DR Studios had the opportunity to develop a new feature for the KNVB Oranje App, enabling fans to celebrate Memphis’ deciding goal or to make a team photo together with Georginio, Frenkie and Matthijs!
Players appear lifelike next to you
A personal visit from your favorite football player, who would refuse that? It would be exceptional in normal times, but this year it is unimaginable. However, as of today it is possible with the KNVB Oranje-App!
Through 'Beleef Oranje in AR' the players visit the fans personally in several digital experiences. Fans can create unique mementos in photo or video with a player’s move or celebration, or even take place in a team photo with multiple players. There is also an option to take a photo with the best prize the Dutch team has won yet: the European Championship’s Cup of 1988.
Extra special in the KNVB Oranje-App is the combination of augmented reality and volumetric video: the players have been captured in volumetric video and appear lifelike in your living room, whenever you want.
For the volumetric capture the players were filmed in 3D with 32 (!) cameras, so you can watch all moves, celebrations, and the team photo from every possible angle. You can even walk around the players using your own device.

To be able to do a COVID19-proof shoot the volumetric capturing stage was transported to the KNVB Campus. Natasja Paulssen –founder and director at 4DR Studios– says this was the first on-site shoot: “I am extremely proud we were able to do this on-site shoot without any hiccups and the end result of this fabulous day is of the highest quality”.
